- Radiator
-
- The radiator is
- designed to cool
- off the hot water
- that comes from the
- engine. It does
- this by passing the
- water through a
- myriad of small
- tubes. The fan
- sucks air over the
- tubes and heat is
- dissipated from the
- water.
-
- Hot water is pumped
- in at the top of
- the radiator and
- cool water is drawn
- from the bottom, to
- go into the engine
- block and cool it
- off. The
- thermostat
- regulates how fast
- the water flows
- through the
- radiator. For
- example: when the
- car is started in
- the morning, the
- coolant is cold,
- and the car is not
- at its optimal
- operating
- temperature. The
- thermostat will
- remain closed until
- the engine block
- has reached the
- optimal operating
- temperature, and
- then it will open
- to let the water
- flow and prevent
- overheating.
